Due to precautions regarding COVID-19, it has been the decision of the university to transition all in-person summer programming to online, including Start Sooner.
The Start Sooner program is transitioning to a modified version of the program that will allow students to continue their coursework online with guidance and insight from the Start Sooner staff. All classes will be held virtually.
The dates will still run from July 5-July 30, 2020. Our program staff is dedicated to providing mentorship, orientation, academic support, and social opportunities all virtually.

Start Sooner’s goal is to provide incoming freshmen students a unique experience that will help them transition from high school into college. Students will be able to move into their room in the residence hall a month early, take 6 hours of class, and explore Oklahoma. Start Sooner at The University of Oklahoma offers challenging courses taught by distinguished faculty, residential living on campus, and engaging activities for students to enjoy sooner.
As a Start Sooner participant you will spend the morning and afternoon in college courses at OU. The morning course satisfies a general education credit requirement. For the morning course you will choose the most interesting course from the list of available courses. In the afternoon, all Start Sooner students will attend a Foundations to College Learning course, which satisfies an elective course credit requirement. The course will focus on teaching the incoming students how to successfully navigate OU and build a strong foundation for collegiate success.
In addition to academics, students will experience collegiate life in the residence halls through fun and exciting activities hosted and planned by our undergraduate peer advisors and OU Summer Session. Programs will be offered almost every day of the week for students to have a quick study break and meet new people.
Students have the opportunity to discover Oklahoma’s heritage and explore all our great state has to offer. Through weekend field trips to OKC's museums, professional sporting events, Tulsa’s aquarium or the Philbrook Museum of Art, every student is sure to find something they enjoy! These Saturday trips are not mandatory, but are encouraged for all Start Sooner students.
