OU Recycling Overview

In fiscal year 2015, OU recycled 812 tons.

Accepted Materials:

  •     Aluminum Cans
  •     Plastic #1 through #7
  •     White Paper
  •     Mixed Paper
  •     Newspaper
  •     Batteries (NEW - special containers available upon request)

We also accept cardboard, toner cartridges, pallets and phonebooks, but these items require special coordination. Old files can also be shredded and recycled upon request. Call Facilities Management's Refuse and Recycling at 405.325.8068 to coordinate.

To order office recycling containers, please e-mail We'll just need the department name, building, phone number, and desired container size. As resources permit, these are available at no additional cost to your department.

Recycling Containers Available

When requesting recycling containers for your office or department, please reference the labeled photos below for container size and type. We provide all E&G buildings with additional containers, at no cost, as available.


Indoor Containers

Here are some of our basic indoor containers. Just send us an e-mail if you want to order containers for your department.

short bin

Indoor Recycling - Container #5

This short indoor recycling container has a limited supply. For availability and delivery contact us via e-mail.

Locking Tote

Classified Files Tote - Container 007

This tote is the most secure recycling container offered. It is equipped with a lock which only Refuse and Recycling holds a key. Once a file is placed in this container, it cannot be retrieved. All files in these containers are immediately shredded upon arrival to the compound.

96 and 32 gal toters

96 and 32 Gallon Locking Toter

The 96 and 32-gallon toters are available upon request and come fully equipped with a lock on the top to ensure security. These containers are emptied by custodial staff, then documents are taken to the Refuse and Recycling compound, at which point the documents are shredded and recycled.


Wall-Mounted Containers

These containers can be found in high traffic areas such as the Oklahoma Memorial Union and first floors of residence halls. They offer pre-sorted categories for paper, plastic, newspaper and aluminum.
