Measuring Data Utilization
An important piece of educational practice is the use of data to understand and meet the children’s needs for learning and development. This project aims to document variations in the quality of data use and components which support effective utilization practices. The ECEI is the lead investigator on this project, developing a measure of data use practices, individual attitudes and confidences about using data, and school infrastructure and support for using data.
Our work has included a literature review, expert paneling, field testing, and pilot testing. The measure has been used in a recent study of Oklahoma teachers’ use of school readiness assessment. Continued work to assess the validity of the measure is planned. More information about the measure can be found here.
