Family and Community Medicine
OU Physicians family medicine doctors offer comprehensive health care for people of all ages. At OU Physicians Family and Community Medicine, our cornerstone is the ongoing, personal patient-physician relationship focusing on integrated care for people of all ages. We’re welcoming new patients and most insurances are accepted.
Providers of family medicine include family medicine physicians, physician assistants, and family nurse practitioners. They work to provide comprehensive health care to all ages, sexes, organ systems and disease. Family doctors are trained to give care from pediatrics to geriatrics and everything in-between. Family practitioners look at a whole individual rather than simply a single health concern. Family medicine doctors can perform diagnostic tests and procedures and assess health risks. Family medicine specializes in performing important screenings such as EKGs, lab, and radiology services. The family doctor may treat acute illnesses and provide long-term treatment and preventive care. Family practice includes working with senior health care, dealing with medication assessment and management, as well as advocacy and referral. Family doctors provide well-women check-ups and can provide women with prenatal, delivery and postpartum care. Other services offered are immunizations, allergy treatment, minor surgical procedures, and chronic disease management. Primary care physicians assimilate behavioral sciences to provide continuing and complete health care to their patients. This includes family and medication counseling and behavioral health. Ongoing treatment with physical and rehabilitative medicine is also given.
