Session II: June 10-22, 2012

Application Deadline: April 27, 2012

The University of Oklahoma Biological Station offers a variety of summer academic classes for graduate and undergraduate credit as well as independent study. These classes are offered during intensive two-week sessions in May and June. The Summer Session 2012 courses have been announced and applications will be accepted starting January 3, 2012. Summer session courses are designed to provide students with extensive and intensive hands-on field study of organisms in their natural habitats coupled with an interactive classroom teaching format. Four courses will be offered in each session. Registration and orientation will be Sunday, May 20 and Sunday, June 10 respectively. A 2012 Summer Session brochure is available as a pdf fileSearch for Courses at UOBS and other Field Stations. Textbooks will be available for purchase at registration and orientation or can be purchased prior to arrival at the station. Textbook needs and price list is available on the UOBS Web site at ou.edu/uobs/textbooks.htm. Students are encouraged to apply early as space is limited. Scholarships are available for both resident and non-resident, graduate and undergraduate students. Application packets should be submitted to Gail Barnes, Secretary, at 103 Sutton Hall or mailed to University of Oklahoma Biological Station, 730 Van Vleet Oval, Norman, OK 73019-6121, Attn: Gail Barnes. Original signatures are required on all forms. Before being admitted to UOBS, all students must first be admitted to the University of Oklahoma (www.ou.edu/admissions/home/applicationpdf.html) or enrolled in a graduate program at another university. Graduate students in this category may apply as a special visiting student and need only to submit a letter on their graduate school’s letterhead (signed by the college's dean) stating that said student is in good standing in the program along with their OU admission application. Prerequisites:
  • Two collegiate laboratory courses, one of which must be in the biological sciences (preferably principles of ecology or other field-based courses) and the other in the natural sciences (e.g. chemistry, physics) or permission of the director are required.
  • Recommendation from the director and/or the instructor.
  • Please contact the Department of Zoology Advising Office or(405) 325-5661 for information concerning capstone prerequisite.
In an effort to standardize procedures between the UOBS campus at Lake Texoma and the Norman campus, students will be able to enroll online once they have received a letter of acceptance. Payments for tuition, fees, room and board will now be paid directly to the Bursar's office.. Room and board charges will be posted to your Bursar account during May for Session I students and in June for Session II students. We would like to remind students that even though we are located approximately 125 miles from Norman, we are still a department of the University of Oklahoma and subject to all the rules and regulations thereof.
