David Shambaugh is Professor of Political Science & International Affairs, and Director of the China Policy Program in the Elliott School of International Affairs, at The George Washington University. He is also a nonresident Senior Fellow in the Foreign Policy Studies Program and Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies at The Brookings Institution. He was educated at George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Michigan. He also studied at Peking University, Nankai University, Fudan University, and National Taiwan University. He has been been a visiting scholar at numerous institutions in China, Taiwan, Japan, Russia, Denmark, and Germany. During the next academic year he will be a residential Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. he is also a member of the World Economic Forum, International Institute of Strateguc Studies, Council on Foreign Relations, National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, and other bodies. He is a widely published author on contemporary China and Asian affairs. He recently co-edited "Making China Policy: Lessons from the Bush and Clinton Administrations" (Roman & Littlefield 2001), and his next book "Modernizing China's Military: Progress, Problems & Prospects" will be published by the University of California Press in November. |
