Richard C. Bush III is director of the Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies and Michael H. Armacost Chair at the Brookings Institution. His two-decade public service career spans Congress, the intelligence community and the U.S. State Department, and includes serving as chairman and managing director of the American Institute in Taiwan from 1997 to 2002. His many books include Untying the Knot: Making Peace in the Taiwan Strait.
