Adopt-A-Professor
The Adopt-A-Professor program provides students with an excellent opportunity to get to know and learn from faculty outside the classroom. Each year, faculty members volunteer to be linked with students in fraternities and sororities and floors in OU’s student housing. The Academic Outreach Office assigns the groups with a professor. Together, the “adopted” professor and his/her student group schedule and plan a wide range of social activities throughout the year.
This program helps to build a stronger OU community by:
- Bridging a gap between students and faculty.
- Establishing more personal relationships between students and faculty.
- Exploring diversity among members, whether cultural or intellectual.
- Seeking common ground, understanding and respect between students and faculty.
It also enhances students’ educational experience by:
- Providing role models.
- Establishing a resource base for networking.
- Helping with everyday activities that may not occur in the classroom but are still essential in building a strong citizen
