Description: A national voluntary health organization helping the 66 million Americans with arthritis and chronic joint symptoms take greater control of their disease through a variety of actions.

Volunteers Needed: Help with special events such as Arthritis Walk and Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis, including event day preparation, recruitment, and help with staff. Staff health fair booths or exhibits, become a program leader, and help in the office.

Description: Linking those in need of receiving to those in need of giving.

Description: We are a fundraising organization that engages in outreach and raising money to fund research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. We fund world-class research, including research at the OUHSC.

Educational Psychology Department

Description: A confidential service set up to aid University students, faculty and staff as well as community persons from around and outside of Norman. Hours are from 8pm to 4am, seven days a week. People who call need many different things, including a caring listener, a referral to another agency, information and suicide prevention.

Volunteers Needed: Volunteers make a semester commitment that includes attending a training session, working shifts answering phones, attending the mid-semester meeting and training and advertising Number Nyne services by handing flyers or chalking sidewalks at least once during the semester.

Description: We improve the living conditions of low-income elderly homeowners in the Oklahoma City metro area by making repairs and modifications to their home. We utilize the labor of thousands of volunteers, in-kind materials and donations to make these repairs throughout the year and on the annual April Work Day.

Volunteers Needed: Help needed with common repairs such as replacing windows and doors, installing locks, repairing leaky roofs, fixing minor plumbing and electrical problems, painting, installing siding, trash removal, general clean-up, building ramps, installing grab bars and handrails, and other accessibility modifications.

Description: An agency of the United Methodist Church that engages with and cares for the poor of the OKC metro area. We are committed to treating the symptoms and addressing the causes of poverty in our city.

Volunteers Needed: Every week, Monday through Friday, we need volunteers to staff our food pantry from 12:30 to 2pm and/or help stock shelves in the morning. Clothes closet needs volunteers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s until 2pm. Volunteer groups needed weekly to prepare meals for approximately 100 and to serve it. Seasonal opportunities in August (Clothes for Kids) and December (Christmas Grace). Volunteers also needed to work with our unique "Jets" after school and summer programs with elementary and middle school children.

The expansion of Teenline (a peer support telephone
line) will provide additional resources and support for youth. Systems of care youth will request Teenline staff to call weekly or bi-weekly at a designated time if they are in need of resources and/or support. The call back staff will be comprised of trained college interns along with high school apprentices who will be trained to be considered as future mentors. *Pre and Post test data collected from the mentees focuses on the 40 Developmental Assets Survey. This information will serve as baseline data to gauge the needs and concerns of the mentees. Ongoing evaluation along with an exit evaluation will provide a more accurate picture of the needs of young people with serious emotional disturbance.
Some of these students may have just come from treatment and the program will provide support in recovery.

Description: Provides safe, temporary housing for victims of domestic & sexual violence and their children.  Residents receive individual and group counseling, as well as referral information for housing, jobs, legal issues, transportation & community resources. 

Volunteers Needed: Rape Response Team – a group of trained volunteers who are available, upon request through the Crisis Line, to meet victims at the Rape Crisis Center or at the hospital emergency room.
