Description: A non-profit agency offering services for persons of all ages for both addiction and mental health services. We offer prevention and education services, counseling services, and employee assistance programs.

Volunteers Needed: Work a booth during wellness fairs and to assist with field trips for children between the ages of six and fourteen. Education Series every Monday night from 5-8pm. Help greet and sign in participants. MPACT after school program, help staff in activities related to the program for elementary or middle school students. Monday - Friday from 3-5:30pm.

Description: A facility devoted solely to the treatment and healing of childhood sexual abuse. We offer confidential counseling and therapy to sexually abused children from ages 3 to 18 years of age.

Volunteers Needed: After receiving a clear background check, you could assist by playing games with the children in the waiting room, get the group rooms ready for counseling sessions or preparing snacks, answer phones on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings. Help organize the outreach storage or assist in the office.

Description: The Gardens encourages organic gardening in the Central Park Neighborhood as a means toward increasing a sense of community, safety and food security while improving the health of soil, urban wildlife and residents. Neighbors have transformed six city vacant lots into organic green spaces as well as numerous front and back yards.

Volunteers Needed: Outside work (often with children and youth) on one of six community garden sites. Work depends on the season and help is needed for year-round organic gardening, hot composting and worm composting. Prepare new garden beds, planting, trimming, harvesting, composting, weeding, mulching and watering.

Description: A non-profit organization whose purpose is to develop the next generation of leaders in our city and state through financial, business and economic education.

 MAISHA is a locally based nonprofit organization that currently houses about 20 Kenyan orphans in Kisumu, Kenya whose parents have died from, among other things, AIDS.  The goal is to shelter and rear these children in a safe, supportive environment.  In addition, the orphanage feeds approximately 100 children in the Kisumu area, and it also seeks to provide AIDS awareness training to educate the populace in order to combat the epidemic.

Description: Provides training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for persons with intellectual disabilities. The expansion of Teenline (a peer support telephone
line) will provide additional resources and support for youth. Systems of care youth will request Teenline staff to call weekly or bi-weekly at a designated time if they are in need of resources and/or support. The call back staff will be comprised of trained college interns along with high school apprentices who will be trained to be considered as future mentors. *Pre and Post test data collected from the mentees focuses on the 40 Developmental Assets Survey. This information will serve as baseline data to gauge the needs and concerns of the mentees. Ongoing evaluation along with an exit evaluation will provide a more accurate picture of the needs of young people with serious emotional disturbance.

Description: A non-profit Christian therapeutic foster care agency. We provide therapy to children that have been abused and neglected and are currently in the foster care system.

Volunteers Needed: We need volunteers to help supervise our children once a month on our group night (3rd Monday evening), volunteers could help with clerical, phones, and recruitment activities.

Description: A private, non-profit pediatric hospital for medically fragile children ages birth to 18 years. We provide 24-hour medical care, rehabilitative therapies, respiratory therapies, special education, and outpatient services to children from Oklahoma and the surrounding states.

Volunteers Needed: Cuddling and rocking infants, reading and tutoring, classroom assistance, special events and gardening and lawn care. The center will provide all necessary training for volunteers who are accepted.

 

TOUCHSTONE YOUTH PROJECT, INC.

Description:  Touchstone is a program for disadvantaged youth in the Oklahoma City area.  We provide the opportunity for youth and volunteers to rock climb, learn life lessons, have a meal, and make life long friendships.   

Volunteers Needed: Mentors willing to rock climb are needed to serve as role models and supervise participants.

Description: A pre-K through 5th grade elementary charter school serving at-risk neighborhood children, most of whom are minority, and most of whom qualify for free/reduced meals based on the income level of the family.

Volunteers Needed: Need mentors, reading tutors, work-day volunteers for facility improvement projects, book drives, uniform drives, school supplies, etc.

Description: Provides programs to promote healthy bodies, minds and spirits.

Volunteers Needed: Assist with children in the after school program. Work in the snack shop, assist with clerical work; help with swim lessons; special projects; work in nursery; help with sports and annual events such as Fall Carnival, Family Fun Nights, Triathlon and Clinics. Volunteer track coaches needed from February through May for our elementary age track program.

Description: The Youth Gardens is a youth-led project of neighborhood youth around NE 16 th and MLK, Jr. Blvd. Youths garden organically to learn teamwork, respect, business and life skills, healthier food choices and how to care for the land, urban wildlife and each other.

Volunteers Needed: Outside work (often with youth) on the grounds of the YWCA. Work depends on the season and help is needed for year-round organic gardening, hot composting and worm composting. Prepare new garden beds, planting, trimming, harvesting, composting, weeding, mulching and watering.
