The University of Oklahoma, School of Drama, and University Theatre present Is He Dead?, a new comedy by Mark Twain and adapted by David Ives, opening Friday, September 18 at 8 p.m., in the Weitzenhoffer Theatre, 563 Elm Avenue, Norman, In the OU Arts District! The show will continue its run at 8 p.m., September 19 and September 24-26, and at 3 p.m., September 20 and 27.
As the story goes, Jean-Francois Millet is a brilliant but unrecognized artist who can’t sell a painting to save his life. With the help of his madcap bohemian friends, Jean decides to stage his own demise to revive sales. However, in order to keep an eye on success, he re-emerges as his imaginary twin sister. Authored by Mark Twain in 1897, this play was recently discovered by Shelley Fisher Fiskin and updated by David Ives.
The cast consists of School of Drama students Daniel Bevan, Sam Boeck, Anne DeFilippo, Clarice Diers, Cody Mayo, Kevin Percival, Paul Stuart, Morgen Reed, Colin Welch, Curry Whitmire, and Addie Work.
Creating Twain’s world of fun and farce are Clayton Guiltner, director, Ashley Monroe, dramaturg, Michael Fain, set designer, Lloyd Cracknell, costume designer, Forrest Tallbull, lighting designer, Brian Morrow, stage manager and Rich Taylor, Theatre Producer.
Tickets are $22 adult, $18 senior and OU faculty/staff, and $14 students with ID. Reservations can be made by calling the Fine Arts College Ticket Service at (405) 325-4101, Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The box office is located in the Catlett Music Center, 500 West Boyd.
