Sooner Weekend: Comedy Fight Night, Tulsa Takedown & Hip-Hop Fest

#SoonerWknd: Comedy Fight Night, Tulsa Takedown & Hip-Hop Fest

A weekend of hip-hop, comedy show-downs and college football — what more can a Sooner ask for?

Sept. 18-20

1. Comedy Fight Night

OU’s Union Programming Board is on a quest to find the funniest student on campus. Watch eager entertainers cut their comedic teeth on stage Friday night at the Comedy Fight Night. The 10th annual event takes place from 7-9 p.m. and is free and open to all students.

2. Science in Action & Object I.D. Day

If you love to see the weird and wacky relics people discover in their dusty attics, tucked away in their basements and stored under the bed, you’ll definitely be into this event: Science in Action & Object I.D. Day. It takes place from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. The museum encourages everyone to bring objects, specimens and artifacts to be identified, or just enjoy scientific discovery, fun and complimentary admission.

3. West Fest music and street festival

Love local bands? West Fest in Oklahoma City is your best bet for a great Saturday night. You’ll find hometown favorites like Tallows, Beau Jennings and the Tigers, Annie Oakley and Willow Way on Western Avenue between NW 41st Street to NW 43rd Street. The festival kicks off at noon with music, food trucks and beer stations for those over-21 Sooners, and it wraps up at 10.

4. Breakfast before the OU vs. Tulsa game

Who can watch football on an empty stomach? Not us! We’re planning a trip to a few locations near Campus Corner to fill up before the OU vs. Tulsa game Saturday: Blackbird and JAX Soul Kitchen (both open at 9:30) and the Library (open at 9). You can also watch the game on the two big screens inside the Brewhouse — so keep that in mind if you’re worried about the weather.

5. Hip Hop Festival

Oklahoma has a brand spankin' new hip-hop festival taking place from 6-11 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-midnight Saturday at the Paramount, 701 W. Sheridan Ave., Oklahoma City. Find information about the festival’s mission, its lineup and performers at oklahomahiphopfestival.com.
