'The Sooner Story' Tells OU's History from Presidents' Perspectives

Written by Anne Barajas Harp with a foreword by Carol J. Burr, the book tells OU’s story by describing the challenges faced by each administration through the eyes of the President.

NORMAN – When the University of Oklahoma’s first President, David Ross Boyd, stepped off the train in Norman and looked at a stretch of wind-swept prairie on which he would build a university, he declared, “What possibilities!”

From that first OU Presidency in the early 1890s to the Presidency of David L. Boren, now in its third decade, each leader has contributed to the history of the University, which today continues to grow and prosper through possibilities. With the vision of each OU President, the University has excelled, and that history is now shared in “The Sooner Story: The University of Oklahoma, 1890-2015,” a book published by the OU Press in celebrations of the University’s 125th anniversary.
