OU Softball Heads to the WCWS in Hopes of a Three-peat

Oklahoma Softball returns to the Women’s College World Series in hopes of winning third consecutive title.

Oklahoma Softball returns to the Women’s College World Series in hopes of winning third consecutive title. The Sooners clinched their ticket to Oklahoma City after defeating Arkansas 7-2 and 9-0 in last weekend’s NCAA Norman Super Regional. This year will mark the 12th time the Sooners have made an appearance at the WCWS since 2000.

OU finished the regular season 55-3, while also going undefeated at home. No. 4 Oklahoma will face No. 5 Washingington on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. CT in the first round of the WCWS at Hall of Fame Stadium in OKC. The game will also be televised on ESPN. Sooners will then match up with either No. 1 Oregon or No. 8 Arizona State in the second round of the tournament.

This year is head coach Patty Gasso’s 24th-year with the Sooners. Gasso knows the expectations are high for her team, but believes her players are prepared and up for the challenge. Oklahoma will arrive in Oklahoma City lead by a group of six seniors, each with plenty of postseason experience.

In their four years, the seniors have won 6 Big 12 titles, been to the WCWS three times and won it twice. Senior pitcher, Paige Parker, said making it to Oklahoma City is something people dream about daily. OU seniors have a record of 222 wins and 29 losses over the past four years, giving them a win percentage of .884, which is the best out of any group in the country.

If the Sooners end their season with another championship, they will join UCLA as the only schools in history to win three consecutive Women’s College World Series titles. For more information about OU Softball visit: www.soonersports.com
