OU Announces Fall Move-In Plans

OU Announces Fall Move-In Plans

June 26, 2020

The University of Oklahoma has announced an expanded move-in process for residence halls on the Norman campus.

To help accommodate social distancing, move-in dates will take place over a five-day period from Aug. 11-15. Additionally, Camp Crimson and Student Orientation Weekend will be combining this year to create Crimson Welcome Week, which will be held Aug. 15-18. This week will be filled with small group times, community building activities, trainings and other fun activities. Crimson Welcome Week will also have optional events programmed Aug. 18-23 before classes begin on Monday, Aug. 24.

Students moving into the Residential Colleges and David L. Boren Hall will move in Tuesday, Aug. 11. Students who will live in Adams, Couch and Walker Centers will move in Wednesday, Aug. 12 through Friday, Aug. 14. Headington Hall move-in is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15.

Students will receive more information in July regarding their specific day and time to arrive on campus as well as detailed guidance on the move-in process and related safety protocols.

The annual move-in experience is a highly coordinated process that begins at Lloyd Noble Center. Once at the residence halls, a moving service will unload students’ vehicles and will deliver new residents’ belongings to their rooms.

Campus Return Preparation

As the university prepares for its return to in-person operations, the health and well-being of the campus community is paramount. OU has appointed Dr. Dale Bratzler, a nationally leading expert in infectious diseases and public health, as University Chief COVID Officer. Dr. Bratzler’s guidance will help ensure OU is taking every possible measure to prevent the spread of the virus during the return process.

Through the Clean and Green initiative, OU custodial staff and specialized contractors are working around the clock to disinfect campus buildings, utilizing enhanced daily cleaning protocols to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and facility modifications to support current COVID-19 prevention best practices. Electrostatic cleaning and facility upgrades are part of the broad effort to diligently prepare all three OU campuses for the return to normal operations. Learn more about Clean and Green at ou.edu/cleanandgreen.

In the residence hall towers, OU will install 2,300 antimicrobial devices as part of a comprehensive effort to provide students the cleanest possible campus living environment. Every room in Adams, Couch and Walker Centers will be equipped with a wall-mounted Synexis® Sphere device, which continuously produces Dry Hydrogen Peroxide (DHP™) to reduce viruses, bacteria and fungi in occupied spaces. Installation will begin in August.

As the remaining residence halls on the Norman campus have different HVAC systems and a lower population density than the towers, they will not have Synexis technology installed. Hospital-grade filters are being installed in the residence halls and all other university-owned housing.
