Google Search Appliance.
In September 2007, we implemented the Google Search Appliance. The old search process only crawled every few months and just indexed the first three layers of content. This new technology crawls the OU site weekly and creates a master index of documents ready for instant retrieval when someone enters a search query.
Over the next few months, we'll be tweaking its intuitiveness to make it even more powerful and accurate. We’re also working on an elegant new navigation menu, with the search integrated into each page.
Long term, we plan to integrate OU’s people search into the appliance. Common searches, such as “George Washington,” will yield results for web pages and departments - as well as faculty and staff - neatly divided into set tabs.
