The Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine by Alina Bronsky

Nominated for the 2010 German Book Award, The Hottest Dishes of the Tartar Cuisine (Europa Editions, May 2011) tells the story of Tartar matriarch Rosa's determination to secure a better life for her granddaughter, Aminat. The quest results in three generations of women leaving Russia and relocating in Berlin after Aminat catches the eye of a sleazy German cookbook writer researching Tartar cuisine.
This is Alina Bronsky's second novel, following her debut, Broken Glass Park (2008; see WLT, May 2009, 60), which Europa Editions published in English in 2010. Bronsky was born in central Russia and moved to Germany at the age of thirteen. She currently lives near Frankfurt.
