Becoming a Writing Consultant

Do you like collaborating? Are you curious about lots of subjects? Are you fascinated by language? Do you enjoy working with people from communities and cultures other than your own?

If so, consider applying to work as a writing consultant in the OU Writing Center. We hire graduate and undergraduate students from all areas of study to coach and collaborate with others as they write.

Most consultants have some kind of writing center experience, whether that’s tutoring in another center or coming to the writing center themselves as writers to get an insider's view. All of our writing consultants participate in learning retreats and our ongoing education practicum. There are also opportunities to do interdisciplinary research, present at academic conferences, publish, and gain leadership and facilitation experience.
