Sample Questions

We can give you more focused and specific feedback if you ask detailed questions that get at the heart of what you want to focus on improving as a writer. Here are some examples of questions that have helped our consultants respond well in the past:

• In past papers I have found out that I did not include enough evidence from other sources. Since that is important for this assignment, do you think I have included enough evidence?
• What does it mean when my instructor says I should include opposing viewpoints?
• Should I delete my personal story? Does it add anything to the statement or should I elaborate?
• Is my thesis statement strong enough to hold up throughout my essay?
• This is a personal statement, but I need to know how to make this more about me than the person who has influenced me.
• Do my examples seem appropriate, or are some of the analogies weak or inappropriate?
• I think I covered the basic requirements of the paper, but I can't seem to get going on a conclusion.
• I sometimes have trouble with plurals, please look for that. Also, I have trouble using commas, please advise where commas are needed.
• Could someone not familiar with the subject matter follow my essay?
• I'm needing to know, I have given a pretty lengthy explanation of the Johnson Administration and his "War on Poverty" from information I knew and, more detailed information I learned from a movie. Do I need to cite this?
