What is Ethics and Religion?

Ethics and religion are cornerstones in society. The importance of ethics is becoming recognized in business practices, politics, and everyday life. A strong background in ethics and religion is important for many careers today, as well as a crucial discipline for all students. OU's Ethics and Religion program is housed with in the Department of Philosophy. Students gain a strong background in philosophy and explore the questions of what is ethical and what is unethical and how this is influenced by religion. Ethics and religion students also learn to piece together their own thoughts and ideas to critically analyze ancient and modern philosophy.

Ethics and religion students typically use their degree as a gateway to post-graduate studies in a variety of areas, including law and medicine. Ethics and religion students study logic, religion ethics, political philosophy, and epistemology, giving them a strong background that will be useful both in graduate school and in careers after graduation.

The OU Department of Philosophy frequently hosts speakers that give students an outside view on a variety of subjects. Some recent topics have been "Reason and Rationality," "Autonomy, Hierarchy, and Caring," and "Does Virtue Make You Happy?" Through these speakers and workshops, students have the opportunity to further explore ethics, religion, and philosophy.
