Parent Resources

We know you play an important role in helping your child through the college decision making process. Being the parent of a prospective college student can be overwhelming. There are a lot of questions involved and the information below will help get some of your questions answered.

The OU Difference

At The University of Oklahoma, we understand and appreciate the value of attracting top students such as your student. Our Honors College, study abroad opportunities, early enrollment privileges, specialized academic advising, and exceptional financial packages—combined with our abundance of undergraduate research opportunities, esteemed faculty and state-of-the-art facilities—make OU a popular home for many National  Scholars. In fact, OU is No. 1 in the country among all universities in the enrollment of freshman National Merit Scholars!  This year’s OU freshman class includes 314 National Merit Scholars from 45 states plus New Zealand.

Because of the extensive research and hands-on learning opportunities available to OU undergraduates, our students transition to the most prestigious graduate and professional schools in the United States. We continue to produce Fulbright, Goldwater, Truman and Rhodes Scholars. In 2013, OU was the only university in the nation, public or private, whose students won Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, Goldwater, Truman, Fulbright and National Security Education Program scholarships in the same year.

A distinct sense of family and community exist at OU, providing a major university experience in a private college atmosphere. National Scholars here at OU have incredible support services available to them. Our dedicated staff is focused on the retention and success of our Scholars throughout their time on campus. Should you have any questions about the National Merit, other scholarship packages or about opportunities available to your student at OU, feel free to contact our National Scholars staff. We look forward to working with you and your student!
