My name is Janaè Branch and I’m from Houston, Texas (attended HSEP at Booker T. Washington High School). I graduated from OU in December 2011 with an industrial engineering degree. Currently, I live in Houston, Texas, and work for ConocoPhillips.

About 14 years ago, I was in your shoes—trying to decide a school and major. My parents drove me all over the United States to visit schools in Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. There were several factors I considered (distance, cost, national rank, etc.), but the greatest factor was intangible—feeling. After my first visit to OU, I knew it was the school for me. OU felt like home. From academic counselors to financial aid personnel to housing representatives, everyone was helpful. The school administrators helped put my mind and my parents’ minds at ease about the out-of-state cost and ability to secure a work-study job.

As a student, I was very active. I maintained a 3.0 GPA while working 20 hours per week, participating in Black Student Association events, National Society of Black Engineers events, Society of Women Engineers events, and holding various positions in the Kappa Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

With nearly a decade in my professional life, I’ve had some great experiences! I’ve worked for three great companies, held nine positions of increasing responsibility, and lived in five cities and two countries. Wow! Sometimes I can’t believe it! My career and experiences were made possible through OU. OU has one of the best career fairs in the country. Companies partner with and recruit heavily from OU because they know the students are well prepared and well-rounded. This preparation includes the academic curriculum and well-rounded extracurricular activities. In addition to academics and activities, OU offers students resume writing assistance and mock interviews. Through the OU career fair, I secured a summer 2010 internship, summer 2011 internship, and January 2012 full-time offer.

All in all, OU was the best choice for me, and I think it will be the best choice for you too. Join the OU family and feel at home.
