“We’re Josh and Kate. We come from Edmond, Oklahoma, and we make a mean batch of jambalaya. We met at OU (the first week of class!), both majored in economics, got married after graduation, completed grad school in England, now work at Google and YouTube in Silicon Valley, and have four kids. But not that long ago, we were in your shoes.”

You don’t know us yet, but you’re one decision away from joining us in the OU family.

Before we get to that though, first a little about us. We’re Josh and Kate. We come from Edmond, Oklahoma, and make a mean batch of jambalaya. We met at OU (the first week of class!), both majored in economics, got married after graduation, completed grad school in England, now work at Google and YouTube in Silicon Valley, and have four kids.

But not that long ago, we were in your shoes. OU mailed us acceptance letters, and we weren’t sure. Would it cost too much? What major to choose? Would it help us find a great job? At that moment, as a senior in high school, we didn’t know what to do.

Looking back, it’s now clear that OU was the ideal launchpad for us for five reasons. (And, you’ll be happy to know, all of those pesky questions worked themselves out.)

At OU,

  • We learned how to write, speak, and solve problems, which led both of us to graduate studies at Oxford, where we ate in Gothic dining halls like OU’s Great Reading Room.

  • We learned how to lead. We got to lead startups, sororities, microeconomics classes, and more, which still gives us confidence in our current jobs at Google and LinkedIn.

  • We learned how to travel by studying abroad across Europe and China. This was possible thanks to OU’s carefully designed immersions and travel scholarships.

  • We learned how to cheer. We lost our voices (every season) at football games, and we still regularly watch the team and seek out OU fans in restaurants and airports.

  • We learned about friendships. Some of our best friends in life are from OU. Some were classmates, some were professors, and one of those friendships grew into our marriage.

Put simply, our lives would have developed far differently had OU not been a part of it. We love the university, and we think you will too. Come join the OU family.
