Students working on Project for Peace Summer 2016 in Uganda

Projects for Peace grants are open to any individual or group of undergraduate students at participating universities to design and implement a project to promote peace.  These are meant to be grassroots projects planned for implementation during the summer of 2024. The objective is to encourage and support today’s motivated young adults "to develop innovative, community-centered, and scalable responses to the world’s most pressing issues."

The projects judged to be the most promising and attainable will be funded at $10,000 each.  An OU student has received one of the $10,000 awards in every year the university has participated in the Projects for Peace program.

No specific guidelines are offered, so the possibilities are endless. In general, projects should be building blocks for a sustainable peace. It is up to students to define what a “project for peace” might be and what the building blocks for peace will look like. Projects for Peace is global in scope and impact, and projects may be undertaken anywhere around the world.

Any undergraduate students currently enrolled at OU are eligible to submit proposals. Seniors who will complete their projects in the summer after graduation may also apply.

Project teams can be composed in any combination of students from OU, other participating parner institutions, or non-partner institutions. Although each team member and their school need to be listed on the proposal and final report, the project lead must be an OU undergraduate in order for projects to be considered.

To be considered, a student, or group of students, must prepare a proposal consisting of two parts: the narrative and budget spreadsheet.

Format of the propsal:

  • Header, which must include:  title of project, country(ies) and/or tribal or ethnic lands where the project will take place, name of the participating institution, name of all student participants,  dates of the project (if not specific, use Summer 20XX).
  • Two-page written statement describing the project (who, what, where, how) including expected outcomes and prospects for future impact. The ideal length of the final narrative is two pages; it must not exceed three pages.
  • The proposal may not exceed 4 pages (2-3 page narrative plus 1 page budget)

Other Key Notes for Proposals:

  • Proposals should include documented pre-approval/collaboration agreements of all other parties and organizations involved in the project beyond the student team members. Letters or emails of collaboration agreements (translated into English as needed) may be submitted as separate pages beyond the 4 pgs of the proposal and budget.
  • If the budget exceeds $10,000, the proposal must identify and provide documentation confirming  the sources of funding to cover the additional costs.
  • Budget must be in US Dollars and inserting additional columns for more specific budget/cost details is encouraged.

The 2-3 pg proposal and one page budget should be submitted by email to the OU UWC Scholars Program office using email address listed below.
