Accessible Educational Materials (formerly known as Accessible Course Materials)

Accessible educational materials (AEM)

print- and technology-based educational materials, including printed and electronic textbooks and related core materials that are designed or enhanced in a way that makes them usable across the widest range of learner variability, regardless of format (e.g., print, digital, graphic, audio, video).

Accessible Educational Materials Guidelines

These are a few broad guidelines for the creation or remediation of educational materials created by the ADRC team based on the University standard of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0
Level AA Conformance


The ADRC has provided videos on creating accessible materials from section 508 and documents on accessibility for scanning techniques to create accessible online documents, processing scanned documents in Acrobat (for Mac), creating accessible Word documents, and creating accessible Excel workbooks. Instructors are encouraged to reach out to the Digital Accessibility team at the ADRC for any questions or training on accessibility.
