Services for University Employees with Disabilities
The University of Oklahoma is committed to providing equal employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The Office of Human Resources is generally the designated office that makes initial determinations on reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities at The University of Oklahoma. These determinations are made in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.
Procedures for Requesting Accommodation
An employee with a disability can request registration and reasonable accommodations through the Office of Human Resources on each of OU’s three main campuses, Norman, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa. It is the responsibility of the employee to begin the process of requesting accommodations, which will commonly include submission of documentation from a provider that includes the specific disability/disabilities, information about the disability, and an interactive discussion with the ADA Administrator for employees.
If you are a student employee, either undergraduate or graduate, the determination about whether you will register as a student employee with a disability through the Office of Human Resources or the Accessibility and Disability Resource Center (ADRC). If your student employment is related to, or expected by, your degree, you will register as a student employee with a disability through the Accessibility and Disability Resource Center. For example, if you are a Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant who is teaching and/or conducting research in engineering and your major is in the field of engineering, you would register through the ADRC. If your student employment is not related to your education, for example, you are a business major and working at Couch restaurants, you would register through the Office of Human Resources.
