Placement Tests

Students are sometimes required to take a placement test prior to enrolling in math or foreign language courses. This is to ensure that students are prepared for the course level at which the subject is being taught.

Math Placement

Math placement test information, including review guides and sample questions, is available at Math Placement.

Foreign Language Placement

The foreign language placement test is available to students who speak a native language other than English, or for students who have an extensive background in another language.

All students who have studied a language for two or more years (within the past five years) must take a departmental placement exam in order to enroll in a course for that language. The department of Modern Languages Literatures and Linguistics offers placement exams to ensure that students are enrolled in the language level appropriate to their current facility in the language.
