The Big Event requires at least 75% of volunteers signed up with a student organization to attend for the student organization to remain eligible to participate the following year. 

Volunteers participate in various community service projects such as painting, landscaping, removing trash from roadways, and visiting with veterans and senior citizens. 

Volunteers serve at over 200 community organizations throughout Oklahoma City, Norman, and the surrounding communities.

On the morning of the big day, volunteers walk, drive, or are bussed to their assigned community organization. The volunteers will be there from 10 AM to 2 PM, working on whatever projects the community organization has planned with a 30 minute break for lunch. The lunch is either a boxed lunch provided by The Big Event or food provided by the jobsite. Some common tasks are gardening, painting, and cleaning. 

Volunteer registration opens in the spring. Once the registration form opens, students, faculty, and staff can sign up on The Big Event's OrgSync page under "Forms".

OU students, faculty, and staff are all able to volunteer!

The Big Event provides OU with the opportunity to say “thank you” to our surrounding community. By doing this, we are able to strengthen and deepen OU's relationship with the community. Numerous community organizations benefit from the services that the dedicated volunteers provide.

The Big Event Executive Team and Operations Staff thoroughly inspect each job site in order to ensure the safety of the environment.
