Biology of Behavior (Strategic Research Initiative)
Behaviors and decision-making are woven into the fabric of natural history and are both a cause and a consequence of major evolutionary changes. How and why organisms decide on and exhibit the behaviors they do are among the most enduring questions in biology. The OU Biology Department has a strong focus on the biology of behavior, with complementary faculty research programs that investigate behavioral mechanisms and decision-making from social to molecular levels and on timescales ranging from millennia to milliseconds. We recognize the value of integrating multiple techniques and perspectives to understand behavioral mechanisms, including evolutionary, developmental, physiological, and genetic approaches.
