I am from Armenia-Colombia, where the best coffee is grown. I got my bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Quindío-Colombia. Currently, I am in my fourth year as a Ph.D. candidate in inorganic chemistry at the University of Oklahoma. I am working in Dr. George B. Richter-Addo lab, and our work focuses on the biological inorganic chemistry of the simple nitrogen oxides NOx, and we pay special attention to the interactions of these NOx species with Fe-containing heme proteins and model hemes. We combine synthetic inorganic chemistry, protein biochemistry, and structural biology to examine how the iron center in proteins directs the physiological effects of nitrogen oxides.

I also previously worked in Dr. Fernando Cuenu lab at University of Quindío-Colombia; as undergraduate research assistant, I synthesized and characterized different aminopyrazole and iminopyrazole compounds and their coordination to palladium, studying their catalytic activity in the Mizoroki-Heck cross-coupling reaction and their antifungal activity (in Dr. Susana Zacchino lab in Argentina) against pathogenic fungi strains for humans and plants.

I have been recipient of multiple awards such as Honor Bachelor’s in Chemistry Thesis Award, EducationUSA Opportunity Fund Program, Michael Abraham First Year Graduate Teaching Assistant Award and Provost Certificate of Distinction in Teaching (4 times). In my free time, I really enjoy playing basketball, soccer, hiking, doing photography and scuba diving.
