Welcome to the Chemical Crystallography Laboratory

X-Ray crystallography is an analytical method used to determine the bonding arrangement of atoms in a crystalline solid.  The bonding arrangement is determined by an analysis of the diffraction pattern, that is produced  when a small crystal of the sample is exposed to an X-ray beam.

This laboratory both provides an analytical service and trains students in using diffraction methods in their research studies.

General Laboratory safety information is at the OU Laboratory Manual web page.  Safety Data Sheets may be obtained at the SDS web site.  Information about radiation safety in the X-ray laboratory is at the radiation safety page.  Special procedures to be used in the Chemical Crystallography Laboratory are at the Laboratory Notes section of the notes page.
