Ph.D., Ohio State University, 1995

Prof. Kates has published articles in College English and College Composition and Communication. Her poems have appeared in The Cumberland ReviewThe Laurel ReviewNimrodPoem, Memoir Story,The Ohio JournalWestBranch, and Texas Poetry Review. Prof. Kates teaches rhetorical theory and creative writing at the undergraduate level and rhetorical theory/composition theory at the graduate level.

History of rhetoric; material rhetorics; women’s rhetorics; creative writing, particularly creative nonfiction; Oklahoma cultural studies.
