Alexander Steimer

"Hi, I’m Alex Steimer and I am a first-year student at OU. I came to study math and hope to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics one day.

"When I tell most people that I study math they say that it’s hard and incomprehensible, which can be true but obviously not the reason why I like the subject. I think math is neat, to say the least because everything makes sense since each theorem or proposition is logically derived from some set of assumptions. But the actual doing of math is also very satisfying, after a couple of hours.

"Not to say that I love frustration, but counterintuitive explanations and confusing problems make for more beautiful results because they’re exactly not what you expect. I have certainly tested the limits of that reasoning in Linear Algebra this semester, and I expect to continue doing so in my career."
