Ethan Blass received his Ph.D. in Germanic Studies from the University of Chicago in 2020. His research focuses on German literature of the late-eighteenth century. He is especially interested in questions related to the historicity and remarkable resilience of narrative forms and genres. This has led him to explore subtle traces of canonical German literature in Hollywood cinema, or to understand love stories told by Goethe against the background of the late romances of Shakespeare. While at Chicago Ethan earned the Teaching Certificate in Second Language Pedagogy, and he is perennially interested in all facets of the process of second language acquisition.
