Francis Watlington (he, him, él) is a Lecturer in Spanish at the University of Oklahoma. He received his BA in English Literature from the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras, while obtaining his MA and PhD in Latin American Literatures and Cultures from The University of Texas at Austin.

After completing a Research Fellowship at the Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice at Texas Law, Francis joined the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at the University of Oklahoma in the Fall of 2016, where he's taught beginning to advanced intermediate-level Spanish, as well as various upper-level courses, such as Grammar In Written Communication, Advanced Conversation, Latin American Literature, and Film survey courses, Sociolinguistics of US Spanish, as well as Spanish for the Professions course offerings, such as Medical, and Legal Spanish.

In addition to his teaching, he has also served as coordinator for the Spanish Conversation Club, and Movie Nights, and as the Resident Spanish Tutor for OU's Student Learning Center. His research interests include 20th-21st Century Spanish Caribbean fiction at the intersection of postcolonial studies and existentialism, as well as emerging discourses in the nueva crónica latinoamericana in response to neoliberal crisis rhetoric circulation.
