NAS Mellon Impact Fellowship
Native American Studies and the OU Native Nations Center received a generous grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support an undergraduate fellowship in Native American and Indigenous Studies at the University of Oklahoma. The Mellon Impact Fellowship emphasizes experiential learning, faculty mentorship, and transferable skills. Mellon Impact Fellows will take two required courses in Native American Studies that focus on professionalization and leadership. Fellows will also complete an internship for which they will receive a $5,000 stipend to help with associated costs. Graduates of this program will be in a strong position to transition into careers or undertake further graduate or professional education.
Questions can be directed to the Mellon Impact Fellowship Coordinator, Dr. Amanda Cobb-Greetham, at nas@ou.edu.
- Up to twelve fellows will be selected annually.
- Application is open to all current OU students. Priority will be given to NAS majors and minors.
- Fellows will have two years to complete the program but it can be completed in one year.
- The application is open to all current OU students.
- Fellows will take two required courses in Indigenous leadership and professional development:
Fall semester: NAS 4970 - NAS Mellon Leadership Seminar
Spring semester: NAS 4970 - NAS Mellon Pro Seminar
- Fellows will each receive a $5,000 stipend to help with the costs of a required internship, which can be completed during any semester within their 2-year term. (The internship satisfies the NAS 3013 Native American Studies Internship requirement for NAS majors. It does not satisfy any requirements toward the NAS minor.)
- The application will open on March 1st for the following academic year. The priority application deadline is April 1st. Applications will continue to be accepted until the cohort has been selected.
A $5,000 internship stipend will be disbursed to the fellow's Bursar account during the semester in which they are completing their internship. Students must be enrolled in NAS 3013-002 Native Amer Studies Internship and be advised by Dr. Cobb-Greetham.
