Helen Riddle Research Award

The Helen Riddle Award for Research Award for the study of vunerable communities is a one-time yearly award of $4000 for graduate student research. The yearly grant will be competitive, with proposals due on October 1 and awards announced by November 15. All members of the departmental DEI committee serve as reviewers for the grant and select the recipient. Graduate student committee members who apply for the award must recuse themselves from the review process. Review criteria for the award are below: 

• Student could apply for the grant to fund research in any area related to the study of vunerable communities.
• Applicants must be graduate students in Psychology; students in the ODYN program are eligible to apply.
• Funds may be used as summer stipend, to fund research-related travel, to fund other-research related costs (e.g., participant compensation), or a combination of these. 
• Grant applications must include a budget that specifies the planned use of these funds. 
• Applicants must describe other potential sources of funding for the line of research they are pursuing, as an exercise in researching extramural funding sources relevant to their research interests. 
• Recipients who use the funds as summer stipend may not teach a summer course.
• Recipients of the award will be required to submit a progress report one year after the award is given, and to make a presentation about their progress during Lunch Bunch in the Fall following the award.
• Awards will be made at the discretion of the committee and in consultation with the Department Chair.

  • Innovation (1/4 page)
  • Approach (i.e., Research Plan, Methods, Analyses; 2.5 pages)
  • Vulnerable communities mission relevance statement (1/4 page)
  • References cited (not included in the 5-page limit)
• Statement of Relevant Extramural Funding Opportunities
• Dissemination Plan (e.g., planned conferences, potential publication outlets)
• Budget and Justification (1 page limit)
• Current CV (no page limit)
• Letter of Endorsement from Faculty Advisor
