University of Oklahoma Department of Religious Studies Scholarships

Religious Studies students are encouraged to apply for scholarships.  Listed below are the Department of Religious Studies scholarships.  If you have any questions, please contact our advisor Jennie Lazar.

Every year, the scholarship application process begins on October 1 and the deadline for application is February 1.  Please visit the Centralized Academic Scholarship Hub to apply.  For questions concerning the Centralized Academic Scholarship Hub, visit here.  

CASH

Awarded to a junior or senior RELS major active in the program with demonstrated financial need.

Eligibility:

-Full-time, regularly enrolled students in Religious Studies at the Junior or Senior level

-Majoring or minoring in Religious Studies

-Minimum 3.0 GPA

-Intention of attending a school of religion of any faith after graduation or a graduate program relating to religion, such as Religious Studies or History of Religion

-Demonstrates need for supplemental financial assistance

-Students who have already received this award are eligible for subsequent awards.

Awarded to the student(s) writing the top one or two research papers in the RELS 4323 Capstone course

Eligibility:

-Full-time, regularly enrolled student in the College of Arts and Sciences  

-Minimum 3.0 GPA

The Timothy Cole Stephenson Scholarship for academic excellence is awarded to the junior RELS major with the highest overall GPA in the program.

Eligibility:

-Full-time, regularly enrolled major in Religious Studies

-Minimum 3.0 GPA

-Undergraduate Junior (as determined by number of credit hours earned)

-Demonstrated academic excellence by achieving the highest overall GPA of students in the Department of Religious Studies

- If two or more students have identical GPAs the department selection committee will implement a process to determine the outcome of the award, which may involve a request for an academic paper and interview with the selection committee

-Students who have already won this award are not eligible.

The Heather Nicole Stephenson Scholarship for academic excellence is offered to the senior RELS major with the highest overall GPA in the program.

Eligibility:

-Full-time, regularly enrolled major in Religious Studies

-Minimum 3.0 GPA

-Undergraduate Senior (as determined by number of credit hours earned)

-Demonstrated academic excellence by achieving the highest overall GPA of students in the Department of Religious Studies

-If two or more students have identical GPAs the department selection committee will implement a process to determine the outcome of the award, which may involve a request for an academic paper and interview with the selection committee

-Students who have already won this award are not eligible.

Awarded to a junior or senior RELS major who demonstrates academic excellence and an interest in religion and ethics.

Eligibility:

-Full-time, regularly enrolled junior or senior major in Religious Studies

-Minimum 3.0 GPA

-Students who have already received this award are eligible for subsequent awards.

Awarded to a full-time RELS student who demonstrates a desire to make a difference with his or her RELS degree.

Eligibility:

-Full-time, regularly enrolled sophomore, junior, or senior major in Religious Studies

-Minimum 3.0 GPA

-Students who have already received this award are eligible for subsequent awards.

Awarded to a RELS major active in the program with demonstrated financial need.

Eligibility:

-Full-time, regularly enrolled student in Religious Studies (undergraduate or graduate)

-Majoring in Religious Studies

-Minimum 3.0 GPA

-Demonstrates need for supplemental financial assistance

-Students who have already received this award are eligible for subsequent awards.

For a student pursuing graduate study or a career in Religious Education (may include public school or secondary education).

Eligibility:

-Full-Time, regularly enrolled major or minor in Religious Studies (undergraduate or graduate)

-Minimum 3.0 GPA

-Planning to pursue a career in education, including seminary, public or private secondary school teaching, graduate school in academic research and teaching, etc.

-Demonstrated need for financial assistance

-Students who have already received this award are eligible for subsequent awards.
