Rob's research and teaching interests include international development, stratification and inequality, health and welfare, globalization, democracy and human rights, and culture and diffusion. Currently, his research activities focus on inequalities that exist in a macro comparative context. Much of his work examines the role that domestic and global forces play in shaping disparities both within and between countries. Several of his recent publications appear in Social Forces, Social Problems, Social Science and Medicine, and Social Science Research.
