Commencement and Convocation

Filled with pageantry, the university-wide Commencement Ceremony is held in May to honor the summer, December and May graduates from the past year. Doctoral candidates are recognized individually, while master's and bachelor's candidates are recognized as a group.  This ceremony includes an address from the OU President, a speech from the Commencement speaker, and ends with a grand fireworks display in the football stadium.

No registration is required for Commencement, but registration and tickets are required for Convocation (below).

For more information about University-wide Commencement, visit OU’s Graduation Office website.

At the College Convocation, candidates’ names will be announced, they will have their picture taken, and they will be presented with a diploma cover by their college dean. This is the time for candidates to celebrate with those in their college.

The College of International Studies has both a December and a May Convocation ceremony.  Students must register HERE to participate in the Convocation ceremonies and to receive tickets for their guests to attend.  Registration is due by October 20 for December Convocation, and March 20 for May Convocation.  There is also a reception after Convocation for CIS graduates and guests.

Candidates may plan to attend both the Commencement and Convocation ceremonies.

Please contact our office if you have any questions. We wish you success in your academic studies at the UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA!
