Data Reconciliation

Instrument readings are inaccurate and do not satisfy conservation laws. In many facilities, plant operators still assume that their readings are accurate enough for their monitoring and control purposes. As imbalances create conflicts with production accounting clerks, balances are closed using several ad-hoc techniques, such as eliminating some measurements or correcting those that in the experience of the operator are less trustworthy. These have proven to be inadequate practices. Formal data reconciliation should be implemented using redundant data.  By the application of the Data Reconciliation Techniques, several objectives can be achieved:

  • Mass balancing with improved accuracy of production rates, beyond those of the instrument readings.

  • Improved instrument maintenance. A list of suspected biased instrumentation is provided daily.
  • Improved leak detection. A list of possible leaks is provided daily.
  • Improved parameter values for Simulation/Optimization studies.

Why do you need independent assessment?

  • You need to know when Data reconciliation will make a difference.
  • You need to know what software in the market is good for your plant, independently form what the vendors say.
  • You need to determine what the software you bought can and cannot do.
  • You need to know if additional data processing to what the software you bought is needed. We can offer some add on routines for bias detection
