Q. Where do I find graphics, movies and sound files to use in my projects?

A. There are several sources for these things, On the internet there are literally hundreds of sites to choose from. Some links can be found on the Resources page. Or, you can find some locally on Socrates, which is the College of Education Server. On Socrates, there are several files that contain a bevy of clip art, QuickTime movies, and sound files. These files are yours, as a student here, to use free of charge.

To get onto Socrates, you must be on one of the Macintosh computers here at the College of Education (either in the computer lab or computer classroom). Then follow these steps:

1. In the upper left-hand corner of the screen, click on the multi-colored
Apple logo (ex.).
2. From the menu that appears, select Chooser.

3. From the window that appears, select AppleShare from the top left corner.

4. Immediately below this, scroll up the menu until you find Education and select this.

5. Then, moving to the right side of this window, select Socrates from that list and then click OK down at the bottom.

6. Another window will appear into which you should type the following:

Username: eipt3043
Password: eipt3043
7.You are now logged onto Socrates and you should have a new menu in front of you, which consists of the following choices: EIPT 3043, Resources, and Student Files. Choose Resources.
Resources consists of multiple folders of clip art, photographs, QuickTime movies and sound flies that are available for your use in the various projects that we do in this class.

To use these files, you may save them to your own disk by dragging and dropping them from the folder onto your disk. You can also save them by pointing the cursor at the object you wish to save and holding the mouse button down for a few seconds. A small menu will appear from which you can select 'Save image as.'

NOTE: You must save them to your own disk before you can use them in your projects, otherwise your projects will not work right.
