Glaucomys volans
This creature is found throughout the eastern portions of North America, residing in deciduous forests.
These squirrels are distinguishable by the presence of a gliding membrane called a patagium, extending from the wrist of the front leg to the ankle of the hind leg.
Unlike many other squirrels, the southern flying squirrels are nocturnal
The squirrels leap from trees, using the patagium as an air foil, and glide gently using their tail as a rudder to their destination.
These creatures are primarily vegetarian, but will occassionally feast on smaller animals.
