Class B address

If the first 2 bits of an IP address are 1 0, it is the address of a class B network. The first 2 bits of a class B address identify the address class. The next 14 bits identify the network, and the last 16 bits identify the host. There are thousands of class B network numbers and thousands of hosts. Why? There are 14 bits available to identify the network and 16 bits available to identify the host.
