The first step on your path to becoming a Sooner is to apply! Each application is read thoroughly, thoughtfully and fairly to evaluate all-around excellence in academics, the arts, athletics, leadership, service, citizenship and character.
If you decide this is the right fit for you, here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Apply early. Our scholarship deadline for incoming freshmen is February 1st.
- Our application includes an essay. You can find the questions here. Practice your writing skills.
- Focus on your studies. Academic rigor is important.
Graduate Admission Criteria
Applicants must meet or exceed the University of Oklahoma Graduate College Requirements. Additionally applicants should have, or be about to, successfully complete coursework for an aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related degree program.
To have a competitive application, applicants should meet or exceed:
- 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for the most recent two years of their academic work
- Verbal GRE Score: > 157
- Quantitative GRE Score: >163
- Analytical Writing GRE Score: > 4
Previous research experience and publications will also be a significant factor in an applicant's evaluation, especially for the Ph.D. program. Recommendation letters and other demonstrations of academic and research skills will be taken into account as well. When selecting The University of Oklahoma as one of your GRE score recipients, please only use the institutional code 6879 (without the addition of any departmental code).
Applications will be reviewed by the faculty selected by the applicant on the AME/CoE applications.
Students are expected to participate fully and effectively in all classroom educational activities. For this reason, the University requires all students for whom English is not a native language to
to demonstrate satisfactory language proficiency by earning a score of 79 (IBT) or greater on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or 6.5 or greater on the IELTS examinations before being admitted.
