Zack is from Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he attended Booker T. Washington High School and earned the International Baccalaureate Diploma. He always knew he would study engineering, but did not know what type. When he was twelve years old, his neighbor showed him how to build a computer using different hardware components; it ignited a true fascination for Zachary. The passion was reinforced by his Eagle Scout project, where he taught several Scouts how to create a three-station computer lab for underserved children.
After one year at The Ohio State University, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma to complete his degree. He declared Computer Science as a major without fully knowing what it consisted of, but it happened to be the perfect fit for his aspirations. After only a couple months in Norman, Zack received an internship offer from Phillips 66. He particularly praises the University and the School of Computer Science for providing internship opportunities to its students. He also appreciates the availability of professors and the possibility to develop great relationships with them, most notably Dr. Hougen and Dr. Radhakrishnan.
Zachary has also been involved with the community. He was on the Soonerthon Executive Board for two years and was the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity Technology Chair for one year. Zack is currently involved with the Software Studio, a new program that gives students all the technology needed to develop projects outside of the classroom. Zack and his team are developing an iPhone application called the “Boomer Beat” that advertises campus events. Zack has also interned for the Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth and National Instruments.
He plans to graduate with his B.S. in December 2014 and is currently considering joining the Accelerated Degree Program, which would allow him to complete a M.S. in CS in just one more year. He is also very interested in pursuing a MBA and eventually creating his own company.
Outside of CS, Zack enjoys exercising, socializing, reading GQ, shopping with his Mom, brewing beer with his Dad, and spending time with his sister. Zack is an avid OU football and Thunder fan, enjoys having two cousins with him at OU, and appreciates how friendly people are on campus.
