4th Annual Symposium, March 27, 2020

The 4th Annual OU-OUHSC Biomedical Engineering Symposium will be in the Samis Education Center at the OU Health Sciences Center on March 27. The Symposium is aimed to bring together the biomedical science and engineering community from the Norman campus and the clinicians and scientists from the Health Sciences Center campus in unprecedented fashion. The symposium will engage clinicians, entrepreneurs, basic scientists, engineers, and key players from the bioscience industry, all aligned in the collective vision of building new partnerships and spreading awareness. Leadership of the Symposium includes members of both campuses, including clinical input to ensure a welcoming and enabling environment for clinicians to attend.

At the heart of the conference organization is the Stephenson School of Biomedical Engineering and the OU Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Technology (IBEST). High-level presentations and focused research talks will both showcase the exciting new capabilities and State-wide developments in the areas of biomedical engineering and healthcare

BBDL Scholars Won 1st and 3rd Place Awards for Student Poster Competition at the National Conference

Four Biomechanics and Biomaterials Design Laboratory students, representing the School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and the Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Science and Technology (IBEST) at OU, were named finalists (among top 28 students) for Student Paper Competition at the 2019 Summer Biomechanics, Bioengineering, and Biotransport Conference (SB3C). Colton Ross (Undergrad. Senior), Cortland Johns (Undergrad. Junior), Devin Laurence (MS Student), and Samuel Jett (MS Student) competed in the nation-wide competition in Seven Springs, PA on June 26, 2019. The students were selected based on a 2-page abstract submitted in Spring 2019 and provided a 5-minute poster presentation at the conference to a series of Bioengineering faculty members from across the United States.

Devin Laurence and Samuel Jett received the First Place and Third Place in the MS-level competition (Solid Mechanics Category) for their recently defended MS Thesis research.

OU 3MT 2019 Final Competition Presentation, First Place: Pratik Samant

Samant, Pratik, a PHD student in the Stephenson School of Biomedical Engineering, has presented "Listening for Cancer with X-ray Induced Ultrasound" at the OU 3MT Final Competition on February 22, 2019. His research is focused on “Designing and constructing the hardware and software for a 3D nanoscale photoacoustic tomography for in-vivo label-free imaging of red blood cells at super-resolution (on the order ofnm)” and “Designing and constructing the hardware and software of an X-ray Acoustic Computed  Tomography for 3D x-ray imaging with a single projection and high resolution x-ray absorption contrast”. His presentation was awarded First Place. Bio medical Engineering (IBEST & SBME) are very proud of Samant for representing the University of Oklahoma at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools 3MT Competition.

Distinguished Lecture Series

The first IBEST Distinguished Lecture Series was successfully delivered as coordinated by Dr. Chung-Hao Lee (http://www.ou.edu/coe/ibest/people;http://www.ou.edu/coe/ame/people/lee). Our honored speaker, Dr. X. Edward Guo, Chair and Stanley Dicker Professor from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Columbia University, made a wonderful presentation on “Bone Bioengineering: Microstructure, Mechanics, Mechanobiology and Beyond”. Our students really enjoyed the seminar.
