Women in Engineering Programming
The mission of the Women in Engineering (WiE) program at The University of Oklahoma (OU) is to inspire and foster the advancement and achievement of women in engineering and sciences. The program serves to engage, educate, connect and support students in the OU Gallogly College of Engineering (GCoE) and the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy (MCEE) by providing curriculum and opportunities for professional and personal development. It also serves the community and state through outreach and service activities, consistent with the WiE guiding pillars.
Outreach activities include GLAMS (Girls Learning and Applying Math and Science), which provides middle school students with early exposure to STEM concepts through fun, hands-on design projects led by current OU students and High School Girls Day to introduce Oklahoma students to current OU students/faculty while participating in STEM activities on campus. WiE also engages incoming students and facilitates the development of the unique connections with peers that will support their success as engineering and science students through its Women’s Welcome and First-Year Interest Groups programs. Professional and personal development activities include programs and curriculum to inspire, inform and support current students through graduation, as well as to contribute to the preparation of these students for career paths in industry and academia.
