International Student Deadlines*

Fall Entry: April 1

These deadlines apply to international applicants who are currently outside the United States.

* Program deadlines that occur before the international deadline take priority. Program deadlines that occur after the international deadline do not – your application will be held to the earliest deadline whether that is the program deadline or university international deadline. Please review your program’s deadline before applying.

Transcript Requirements

International Graduate Admissions

Applicants must submit transcript(s) from their last degree-granting institution.

Graduate applicants must, at minimum, possess, or be in the process of completing, the equivalent of a 4-year US Bachelor’s degree. In most cases, a 3-year Bachelor’s degree is not sufficient for graduate study at the University of Oklahoma.

Please note: If you are admitted to the University of Oklahoma, you will be required to submit official transcripts from all degree-granting institutions.

The Office of Graduate Admissions evaluates all international credentials. We do not use the evaluations of external international credential agencies.

Special Instructions:

If your transcript is issued by your university in a language other than English, we require the official, original language document as well as an official, or certified, English translation.

Applicants from India: If your university issues mark-sheets, we require original and complete university mark-sheets. Consolidated mark-sheets are not acceptable.

Applicants from Iran: To be considered official, your English translation and accompanying Persian document must bear the stamp of the Department of Official Translators’ Affairs.

Before You Apply

Thinking about graduate school?
Please review the following questions and determine how they apply to you:

Have you earned at least the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree or will you earn this degree before the term in which you wish to begin your graduate studies?

  • Please submit a copy of your transcript from your last degree granting institution with your application.


  • You are not eligible for graduate study at the University of Oklahoma. See International Undergraduate Admission if you are interested in pursuing undergraduate study at the University of Oklahoma.


Do you know what area of study you wish to pursue?

  • Make contact with your graduate department regarding supplemental requirements and the research interests of their faculty.



Have you demonstrated proficiency in English? (TOEFL/IELTS/Previous study in the U.S.)

  • Please request official copies of your scores. These must be sent directly from the testing organization. If you have previously studied at the university-level in the United States, please submit official transcripts from all institutions attended.



Do you have a funding source for your study in the U.S.?

  • Ensure that you have enough funding for your entire graduate program. If you are not the owner of the account in which the funds are held, be sure to obtain a signed Financial Support Letter from the account holder. Submit all funding documentation to the Office of Graduate Admissions.


  • International students are not eligible for U.S. federal financial aid. However, graduate assistantships may be awarded by your graduate program. Contact your academic unit for additional information regarding the availability of graduate assistantships and how to apply.

Please note: If you are admitted to a graduate program at the University of Oklahoma, you must submit funding documentation for your first year of study before your admission and I-20 may be processed.

How to Apply

Step 1: Complete the University of Oklahoma online application. See Apply Now! above

Step 2: Submit the following with your application:

  • Transcripts or mark-sheets and degree certificates from your last degree-granting institution.
  • Official TOEFL score sent directly from ETS or official IELTS score reports
    • Unofficial copies of test scores may be uploaded with your online application.
  • All financial support documentation
  • Copy of your VISA/Passport page/Marriage certificate (if bringing dependents)

Please note: Many departments require supplemental documentation. These supplemental documents may be uploaded along with your application. Please contact the department to which you are applying if you have questions about supplemental requirements.


Have you submitted the following documentation, either during your application process or in response to a request from International Student Services?

  • Financial Support Documentation
    You must show proof of immediately available (liquid) funds equal to the amount of your estimated cost of attendance for your first year, or you will not be issued the I-20 or DS-2019. See Estimated Costs of Attending OU for more information.

  • Passport Name Page
    Your passport biographic page is required to create your I-20 or DS-2019.
    • Any pages showing corrections to your name, date of birth, or any other information should be included to ensure accurate processing.
    • If you do not have a passport, your birth record is the only acceptable alternative document.
    If you did not submit your passport biographic page, you must submit a copy before your I-20 or DS-2019 can be issued. You may email a copy of your passport biographic page to

  • Dependents
    A copy of your dependent(s) passport biographic page and documentation proving your relationship to your dependent (i.e. Marriage document or birth record) are required to create a dependent I-20 or DS-2019.

    If you did not submit your dependent documents, you must submit copies before your dependent’s I-20 or DS-2019 can be issued. You may email a copies of these documents to


Have you submitted the following documentation, either during your application process or in response to a request from the Office of Graduate Admissions?

  • Official Transcript
    You must submit an official, hard-copy transcript (including all marksheets and degree certificates, if applicable) to the Office of Graduate Admissoins before your admission will be finalized.

  • Proof of English Proficiency
    See English Proficiency Requirements for more informaiton.

After You Apply

  • If you have applied for graduate study at the University of Oklahoma, but have not yet been admitted:
    • You may check your status of application online. See Already Applied? above.
    • You may also call the Office of Graduate Admissions to inquire about your status and to ensure that all required documents have been received.
    • You may contact your your department.


  • You have been admitted to your graduate program, but have not yet received your admission packet or I-20 Document:
    • If you have received notification of admission from your academic unit, but have not received your I-20, see Receiving Your I-20.


  • You have been admitted to the University of Oklahoma and have been issued your student visa by U.S. immigration:



Graduate Admissions Process


  1. Office of Graduate Admissions receives application and academic credentials

  2. Office of Graduate Admissions evaluates and verifies academic credentials

  3. Application and credential evaluation are reviewed by graduate academic unit

  4. Graduate academic unit returns recommendation to the Graduate College for review and approval

  5. Office of Graduate Admissions processes decision and notifies applicant
