Requesting a Support Letter for U.S. Visitor's Visa
For international students in need of a support letter for a U.S. Visitor’s Visa application in order for a friend or family member to attend Graduation ceremonies, please email the following information to the Graduation Office at Commencement@ou.edu :

Please also indicate each invited guest's relation to you.
Letters will be prepared inviting guests to attend The University of Oklahoma Graduation ceremonies where the student is to be honored.
Students requesting support letters are responsible for picking up the letters from the Graduation Office and mailing them to the friend or family member. OU cannot make the Visa application on behalf of the guest(s).This is the responsibility of your invitee.

Bachelor and Master's Degree Candidates
5 p.m. Parking and shuttle service starts from Lloyd Noble Center
5:30 p.m. Gates to The Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium open
6:15 p.m. Pre-Commencement Concert/Photo Presentation for Guests at Stadium
6:30 p.m. Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree candidates gather at Brooks Mall in academic regalia. Click here for a diagram of the Brooks Mall Area and the approximate location of your degree granting college's line.
7 p.m. Processional of all graduation candidates, faculty and the President’s platform party into the stadium accompanied by flags, banners and music
All remain standing until the end of The National Anthem
Graduation from OU is an achievement the entire University takes pride in and celebrates during Commencement. The University expects attendance by all students who are candidates for graduation at the end of the spring semester and encourages participation by all those who graduated in the previous summer and fall. Undergraduate students with 14 or fewer hours to complete their degree during the summer session and graduate students who have received permission from their college of major work may also participate.
Doctoral candidates are individually recognized and hooded on stage at Commencement. Doctoral candidates may invite a faculty mentor to hood them in the Commencement Ceremony.It is the responsibility of each doctoral candidate to invite their faculty mentor to take part in Commencement.
To participate in the doctoral hooding ceremony and reserve seating for you and a faculty mentor - contact the Graduation Office - firstname.lastname@example.org or (405) 325-0841. Please include your name and your faculty mentor's name in any e-mail correspondence.

Commencement Day Time Line for Doctoral Candidates and Hooding Faculty Members
5:00 p.m. CART busses begin route from Lloyd Noble Center parking area to the stadium
5:30 p.m. Doctoral Candidates and Faculty Mentors arrive at Neilson Hall, Room 170 for check-in and photos. Click here for Doctoral Hooding Instructions.
5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Doctoral Candidates and Faculty Mentors take photos*
6:30 p.m. Photos conclude and candidates and faculty mentors line up for the processional at Brooks Mall. See the diagram here.
7:00 p.m. Processional
approximately 8:45 p.m. Conferring of Doctoral Degrees
approximately 9:30 p.m. End of the Commencement ceremony
*Professional photographers from Party Pics will take photos of doctoral candidates and their hooding faculty members prior to the ceremony and will also be available after Commencement to take photos of gradutaes with their families and friends. The photo stations will be set up in the north and south end zone areas. Proofs and ordering information will be available here after Commencement.

Doctoral Candidate and Faculty Mentor Rehearsal
Commencement rehearsal for doctoral candidates and their faculty mentors, if applicable, will be held on Thursday, May 7 at 6 p.m. in Lissa and Cy Wagner Hall room 135. We ask that you and your faculty mentor attend, if at all possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 405-325-0841.
Volunteer as a Commencement Ambassador and Earn Money for Your Student Organization!
Individuals and groups may volunteer to serve as Commencement Ambassadors at Commencement and earn money for their Student Organizations.
Commencement Ambassadors serve as hosts for the Commencement ceremony, and may be responsible for welcoming guests, handing out programs, directing guests to open seating, and creating an overall friendly and celebratory environment for our OU graduation candidates and guests. Commencement Ambassadors will be asked to arrive at a location to be determined at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 8. Half of your group will be required to stay until the end of Commencement, approximately 9:30 p.m. Click here for a map of The Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Groups providing Commencement Ambassadors will receive a deposit to their Student Organization account. Student organizations will receive $30.00 per person (maximum $450 per organization)
International Flag Bearers
As a part of the University-wide Commencement ceremony, international flags representing some of the home countries of faculty, staff and students are presented by international flag bearers as part of the processional and ceremony.
International students and internationally focused groups may volunteer to serve as International Flag Bearers at Commencement and earn money for their Student Organization. Students who volunteer singularly to be International Flag Bearers may designate a student organization to receive payment for their volunteer time. Student organizations will receive $15 per volunteer (up to $225 per organization).
International Flag Bearers must report to the Bizzel Memorial Library South entrance by 6 p.m. dressed in their academic regalia. Students who are not graduating and thus do not have academic regalia will have regalia provided for their use in the Commencement ceremony. Click here for a diagram of the Brooks Mall area.
International Flag Bearers will help lead the processional into the stadium bearing the flags of some of the countries represented at The University of Oklahoma. They will stand with their flags as the National Anthem is sung. Once the National Anthem has commenced, International Flag Bearers will exit the stage area and return to the graduation candidate seating area. Flags will be distributed on a first come, first served basis and specific flags may not be requested.
